ME Team Conducts Maintenance on Automated Cooling and Spraying System at FairFarms

An ME team led by Mr. Sophy returned to FairFarms in Kampot Province to inspect, repair, and maintain the automated cooling and spraying system developed for the farm.

The Mechanical Engineering team at the Royal University of Phnom Penh recently returned to FairFarms in Kampot Province to inspect, repair, and test the farm’s automated cooling and spraying system.

This maintenance visit was part of the team’s continuing support for the project. The collaboration originally began with a site assessment to understand the farm’s operating conditions and practical challenges. Following the assessment, the team installed an automated system designed to cool water and support spraying operations at the farm. The farmer was also trained in system operation, routine inspection, and basic maintenance.

During the recent visit, the team examined the system’s main components, identified areas requiring attention, carried out the necessary repairs, and performed functional tests. These activities helped ensure that the system could continue operating reliably under actual farm conditions.

Maintenance is an essential part of every engineering system. Even a well-designed system can experience component wear, environmental exposure, changes in operating conditions, or unexpected technical problems. Regular inspection and timely repair can reduce downtime, improve reliability, and extend the useful life of the equipment.

The visit also provided a valuable real-world engineering experience for the team. Troubleshooting an operating system requires more than theoretical knowledge—it involves careful observation, technical analysis, teamwork, and practical decision-making.

The FairFarms project demonstrates that engineering work does not end after a system is designed and installed. Long-term support, user training, monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement are equally important to creating solutions that remain useful to the community.

Through this continuing collaboration, the Mechanical Engineering team applies engineering knowledge and hands-on practice to address a real agricultural challenge in Cambodia.
